The Merkel swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool in Esslingen am Neckar, is one of the last surviving Art Nouveau indoor swimming pools in Germany and was built from 1905 to 1907 according to design and execution plans by the Giessen architect Hans Meyer.

In 1957, the Katharinenlindenturm, an observation tower of the Swabian Alb Association located at 48° 46′ 15" N, 9° 17′ 48" E, was built near the Linde. It is made of reinforced concrete and is 17 metres high. Almost on the same site, a managed refuge with a wooden, low tower had already been built in 1899.
