The church of Santa Maria di Castello can be considered a symbol of the urban history of Alessandria; it is indicated, in fact, as the oldest place in the city in the absence of the religious center par excellence: the ancient cathedral of St. Peter of the twelfth century demolished by order of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1803. The Marengo Museum, located in the hamlet of Spinetta Marengo, in the municipality of Alessandria, Italy, is the museum dedicated to the Battle of Marengo. Multimedia incarnation of the historic centenary Museum of Marengo, it was officially opened in June 2009.
