The church of Santa Maria di Castello can be considered a symbol of the urban history of Alessandria; it is indicated, in fact, as the oldest place in the city in the absence of the religious center par excellence: the ancient cathedral of St. Peter of the twelfth century demolished by order of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1803. The church is located in the square of the same name and together they form the heart of Borgo Rovereto, an ancient district in the historic center of Alessandria. Castrum Roboreti, or more simply Roboretum, as the ancient Latin names were, already curtis regia in the eighth century, was one of the eight settlements that contributed to the foundation of the city of Alexandria in the second half of the twelfth century.

2. Marengo Museum
The Marengo Museum, located in the hamlet of Spinetta Marengo, in the municipality of Alessandria, Italy, is the museum dedicated to the Battle of Marengo. Multimedia incarnation of the historic centenary Museum of Marengo, it was officially opened in June 2009. The museum is located inside Villa Delavo, built in 1846 by the pharmacist Giovanni Antonio Delavo. Inside there are artifacts and relics of the time, alongside works created by contemporary artists. Outside the museum is the park of the villa, with the funeral monument dedicated to the fallen of the battle and to General Desaix.
