The church of San Domenico is located in Chieti, on Corso Marrucino, overlooking Piazza Giovan Battista Vico. Built as a monastery dedicated to St. Anne, run by the Piarist monks of St. Joseph Calasanz, from the second half of the 1600s it housed a school of classical studies, in contrast to the Jesuit College of St. Ignatius, which in September 1861 became one of the first royal classical high schools in Abruzzo, called the "Giambattista Vico" boarding school. It also houses a national boarding school. Since the Dominican monastery and the church, a short distance away on Corso Marrucino, were demolished in 1913 in agreement with the Province of Chieti to build a new building, the Government Palace, the church with the Pious Schools took on the current name of San Domenico al Corso - San Domenico nuovo.
