The Malatesta Temple, usually referred to by the citizens as the Duomo and since 1809 it has become a cathedral with the title of Santa Colomba, is the main place of Catholic worship in Rimini. Completely renovated under the lordship of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, with the contribution of artists such as Leon Battista Alberti, Matteo de' Pasti, Agostino di Duccio and Piero della Francesca, it is, although incomplete, the key work of the Rimini Renaissance and one of the most significant architectures of the Italian fifteenth century in general.
2. Domus del chirurgo
The surgeon's house is a Roman house of the second half of the second century, discovered in 1989 in Rimini in Piazza Luigi Ferrari, and opened to the public on December 7, 2007; mosaics, frescoes and artifacts have been found here, including one of the most complete series of surgical instruments from the Roman age, preserved at the Museum of the City of Rimini. The archaeological site of the surgeon's house also brings to light later archaeological stratigraphies, including walls from the imperial age, a palatial dwelling and part of an early medieval Byzantine house.
3. Anfiteatro Romano
The Roman Amphitheatre of Rimini was erected during the second century A.D. and used essentially for gladiatorial shows. For the municipium of Ariminum, formerly located on the northern border of the Roman Republic and which was already enriched by a theater for performances and the famous Tiberius Bridge, the amphitheater marked a step forward in the "rank" of the city. As was tradition for this type of building, the amphitheater was built on the outskirts of the city, taking advantage, in this case, of the proximity of the sea for a more spectacular emotional rendering.
