During the Edo period, it was the headquarters of a branch of the Matsudaira clan, who were hereditary daimyō of Fukui domain under the Tokugawa shogunate. The castle was also known by the name of Kitanoshō Castle , after an earlier castle built by Shibata Katsuie, over whose ruins it is partly built.

Jizoin is a temple of the Soto sect located in the northwest of Yasuhara Town, Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. The main shrine is one of the four seats of the shrine of Umemiya Taisha, and the eleven-sided Kannon of the Buddha is the main place of the god Sake. The name of the mountain is Mt. Kongo, and the name of the temple is Jizoin, and it was also a prayer place for the Echizen Matsudaira family. The Kannon of the Honzon is worshipped as Koyasu Kannon, and some people come to pray for the blessing of children and thank them on the fairs of February and July.
