The church is of the cruciform type of church, although from the outside the church appears square. It is Zoetermeer's oldest building, with the tower from 1642, and the brick base from the 15th century. There was probably already a church on this site of the current old church in 1296. The Nicolaaskerk is the third church at its current location at Dorpsstraat 24 in the old center of Zoetermeer. After the use of a hidden church on the Voorweg, two plots of land could be bought here after the Batavian Republic and the first church for the parish was built. It became so bad in a short time that a completely new church was needed in 1857. After some time, this church turned out to be too small and on March 17, 1915, the foundation stone was laid for the current one. In 1916 the church was consecrated by the bishop Augustinus Callier of Haarlem. The current Nicholas Church is a national monument.

De Doortocht is a Roman Catholic church building in the De Leyens district in the Dutch city of Zoetermeer, a neighborhood where initially no Catholic church was planned but which was built anyway because of the growth of Zoetermeer, with which small-scale church buildings were later built in other neighborhoods. The church with 250-300 seats was designed by the architects J.F. van Vliet and Ph. Herpertz. In 1973 they designed a similar church building in Leidschendam, the Memorial Church of Pope John XXIII. The Passage was built in a meadow as one of the first buildings in the district. The church was inaugurated on December 14, 1975 when it was consecrated by the bishop of Rotterdam, Mgr. Dr. A.J. 7. De Hoop

De Hoop

De Hoop is a round stone windmill from 1897 in Zoetermeer, South Holland. De Hoop was built to replace an earlier "wind and steam flour mill, also a hulling mill" by Bastiaan Hoogenboezem on the same spot, which burned down in the early morning of January 16, 1897. Presumably this was an octagonal wooden mill. In 1936 the work in progress was demolished from the mill and since then De Hoop has only been used as a grain silo. After a major restoration that lasted from 1983 to 1986, the mill was ready to grind again. Since then, grain has been milled weekly in a traditional way. On Saturdays, the mill shop is open and all kinds of baking supplies are sold. Most of these were produced in the mill.
