The Casa de las Palmeras is the house that was owned by the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. It is located on Francisco de Aguirre Avenue in the commune of La Serena, and in its back is the Gabriela Mistral Regional Library. It was declared a Historical Monument in 1990.
Sight 2: Juan Guzmán Cruchaga
Juan Guzmán Cruchaga was a Chilean poet and diplomat. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1962. Guzman Cruchaga was of Basque descent. He was the son of Juan José Guzmán and Amelia Cruchaga Aspillaga. He attended the colegio de San Ignacio from 1905, finishing his humanities subjects in 1912. In 1913 he enrolled into the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile, quitting during his third year there.

Fernando Binvignat Marín was a Chilean Spanish teacher and poet, recognized with the Regional Prize for Literature in 1975.

Enrique Molina Garmendia was a Chilean educator and philosopher who promoted and aided in the development of the decentralization of education in Chile. His greatest achievement was founding the Universidad de Concepción, the third oldest university in Chile and the first to be located outside the capital Santiago. Garmendia is considered the most distinguished pedagogue of his time, as well as one of the most influential Chilean philosophers.

Carlos R. Mondaca Cortés was a Chilean professor and poet. He served as rector of the General José Miguel Carrera National Institute between 1926 and 1928.

Sight 10: Gabriela Mistral
Book Ticket*Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, known by her pseudonym Gabriela Mistral, was a Chilean poet-diplomat, educator, and Catholic. She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order or Third Franciscan order. She was the first Latin American author to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945, "for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world". Some central themes in her poems are nature, betrayal, love, a mother's love, sorrow and recovery, travel, and Latin American identity as formed from a mixture of Native American and European influences. Her image is featured on the 5,000 Chilean peso banknote.

Francisco de Aguirre Avenue, also known as Alameda de La Serena, is an avenue in the Chilean city of La Serena, cataloged as the main entrance road to it. Its name comes from the Spanish captain Francisco de Aguirre, who refounded the city in 1549.
Sight 12: Parque Jardín del Corazón
The Parque Jardín del Corazón, also known as Parque Japonés de La Serena, is a park located in the Chilean city of La Serena that was inaugurated in 1994. Its theme is set in Japan and it has various plant and animal species from that country. Built on a 26,000-square-meter site, it is the largest Japanese park in South America. It is a Karesansui contemplation park with a mountain and water landscape.
Sight 13: Centro Histórico de La Serena
Plan Serena was a major urbanistic project in the Chilean city of La Serena which included restoring the old city, building new public schools and new buildings for several public services. The project took place between 1948 and 1952 and left La Serena with its characteristic neocolonial architecture style. The works were not restricted to La Serena but included the whole province including the port city of Coquimbo. The project took place during the presidency of Gabriel González Videla, a native of La Serena.
