Sight 6: Bugenhagenbrunnen
The Bugenhagen Fountain is a monument created by Ulrich Henn, which was inaugurated on Whit Sunday 1995 on Andreasplatz in Hildesheim. It is dedicated to Johannes Bugenhagen, who gave the first Protestant sermon in St. Andrew's Church on September 1, 1542. It was financed by the Friedrich Weinhagen Foundation in Hildesheim. The fountain is 7.5 meters high and has a diameter of 8 meters. It is cast in bronze. In the work of art, the artist did not so much depict Bugenhagen as a person, but his work – "updated", as Johannes Brockhoff writes.
Sight 7: St. Michael's Church
St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim is an Ottonian, i.e. pre-Romanesque or early Romanesque church after Kubach. Until the Reformation, it was the abbey church of the Benedictine abbey of the same name. Today it is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church. The Bernward Crypt belongs to the Catholic inner city parish and is used for weekday masses. Since 1985, the church, together with Hildesheim Cathedral, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Cathedral and St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim.
