The gallery includes a specialist library on 20th and 21st century art, a printing workshop in the north wing of the castle and a "citizens' workshop" with a painting school in the former carriage houses. Since 2024, the museum has been headed by Marcus Körber.

The church served as a place of worship for the inhabitants of the outer bailey and later estate of Wolfsburg Castle. The church patronage was initially exercised by the von Bartensleben family and later by the noble family of the von der Schulenburg.
