The Katona József National Theatre in Kecskemét is the centre of the theatre life of Kecskemét, named after the author of Bánk bán, József Katona from Kecskemét, in 1916. The institution includes not only the Grand Theatre: it has two more venues, the Kelemen László Chamber Theatre and the Ruszt József Studio Theatre. Sections: prosaic, ballet and musical. Its current director is Péter Cseke. The theatre should not be confused with the Budapest institution of the same name. From 1 January 2020, the theatre operates as a National Theatre according to the decision of the Hungary Government.
