The Monument to Francesco Datini is one of the symbols of Prato and is located in Piazza del Comune, the work of the Ferrara sculptor Antonio Garella. Made of white Carrara marble, it is dedicated to the merchant of Prato, Francesco Datini, and depicts the character in the act of giving his will to the poor, who were the recipients of his immense wealth through the establishment of the Ospedale del Ceppo. The pedestal features bronze bas-reliefs on the life of the famous merchant. The work has been restored to its former glory after the restoration completed in 2010. The original cast of the sculpture was kept at the Convitto Cicognini where it was accidentally destroyed in 2015. Every August 17, the city pays homage to the merchant and patron by placing a laurel wreath at the base of the sculpture.

The museum of mural painting is located in Prato, in the complex of the former convent of San Domenico; the entrance to the museum is next to the façade of the church of San Domenico. Built in 1974, it was the first Italian museum specifically intended to house detached frescoes, sinopias and other mural painting techniques of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, mainly from the Prato area. From 1998 to 2013, with the exhibition called The Treasures of the City, it was the main exhibition center in Prato, hosting all the masterpieces of fourteenth-fifteenth-century painting until then preserved in the Civic Museum (Prato), which in those years was under renovation, and part of those of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. In the following years, a reorganization of the original collections and an expansion of the museum spaces was carried out, in anticipation of the creation of new sections of the museum.
