Individual Sights in AppenzellSight 1: Kunstmuseum Appenzell
The Kunstmuseum Appenzell is an art museum in the Swiss canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. It shows art of the 20th and 21st centuries in special exhibitions as well as exhibitions on its own collection.
Sight 2: Schloss Appenzell
Appenzell Castle is a castle in the Appenzell District of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in Switzerland. It is one of a few 16th century stone buildings in Appenzell. It is part of the Swiss heritage site of national significance.
Sight 3: Pfarrkirche St. Mauritius
The parish church of St. Mauritius is the Roman Catholic parish church of the village of Appenzell. It is dedicated to Saint Mauritius, the patron saint of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The first building on this site was built around 1068/1069. In the course of its history, the church has been expanded or rebuilt several times. It received its present external appearance with the construction of the new classicist nave between 1824 and 1825; the choir and the tower of the late Gothic church remained unscathed. Inside, even after the renovation from 2018–2019, the neo-Rococo style redesign carried out between 1890 and 1892 was largely preserved. The high altar dates from 1622, the rest of the church furnishings mostly from the middle to the end of the 19th century.
Sight 4: Reformierte Kirche
The Reformed Church of Appenzell forms a unit together with the Reformed parsonage. The building was built between 1908 and 1909. The church is located north of the Appenzell cemetery, while the Roman Catholic parish church of Appenzell is located on its south side.
Sight 5: Lourdeskappelle
The Lourdes Chapel, also known as St. Martin's Chapel, is located on a small hill between the Sitter and the Bleichwäldibach north of Appenzell. It was built in 1594 as the infirmary chapel of St. Martin and was still outside the village at that time. It is located in the district of Schwende-Rüte in the extended fire inspection circle.
