For the municipium of Ariminum, formerly located on the northern border of the Roman Republic and which was already enriched by a theater for performances and the famous Tiberius Bridge, the amphitheater marked a step forward in the "rank" of the city. As was tradition for this type of building, the amphitheater was built on the outskirts of the city, taking advantage, in this case, of the proximity of the sea for a more spectacular emotional rendering.
